More hay making

I had another string days of good weather. I was able to bale 25 more round bales. I mowed, raked and baled within 4 days. I used about 20 gallons of diesel fuel - less than a gallon per bale. I wonder how long it would take to use horses to put up that much hay?

  1. Hello Timekeeper!
I saw your post over at John Michael Greer's blog when he announced his new whereabouts. I too have relocated to the area, living and doing part time work in Thurmont MD (just north of Frederick) on an organic farm here, while spending the rest of my time getting increasingly jaded in the financial services industry. I am looking to make the jump onto property of my own, or splice it up and own/manage part, while doing a bushel lease or something with the other part. I have Greer-like worries about the next 15 years, and want to be part of the solution.

I am really, really out of my element, and would love any advice you might have on buying land in MD. Anything that you wish you knew, or would recommend for someone who will be spending the next year sharpening my teeth on an organic farm. My email address is danielmc999 [at] gmail. Many thanks.

    best,
    Dan
